Elizabeth Lyon
Biography
Elizabeth began studying the cello at the age of 5 with her mother, a professional cellist, and has been playing for nine years. From 1998-2001 she was a music student at Temple University’s Center for Gifted Young Musicians where she was the youngest member of the Baroque Players Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Davyd Booth and where she also studied chamber music. In spring 2000, Elizabeth performed the Vivaldi Concerto for violin and cello with the Altoona Symphony Orchestra. Elizabeth was the concerto winner for her age group at the Strings 2001 Festival where she was also a member of the senior orchestra. Elizabeth was a top prize winner in the 2001 and 2003 Pennsylvania/Delaware American String Teachers Association competition. Through an international competition, Elizabeth was chosen to perform as principal cellist in the 2002 Viva-Vivaldi All Girl Orchestra, performing at the Kennedy Center, in Washington, D.C. In the summer of 2002, Elizabeth attended the Festival de la Orcquestra Sinfonica Juvenil de las Americas of the Casals Festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she won second prize in a concerto competition. Elizabeth has performed in master classes for William Stokking and Andre Emelianoff. She performs regularly with the Lyon Family Chamber Ensemble, which recently gave a series of concerts across Australia. Elizabeth is fourteen years old and is currently in the ninth grade at Bishop Guilfoyle High School.
