The Nittany Valley Symphony Guild is selling poinsettias again this year to raise funds for the Nittany Valley Symphony. Poinsettias make a great gift for employees, patrons, and friends. They make wonderful office decorations.

This year we are offering two sizes for your convenience:

Directions: On Waupelani Drive, go across White Hall Road at the light (diagonally across from the YMCA) and then straight 150 yards to the church.

In the past, proceeds have sponsored principal chairs in the Nittany Valley Symphony and the annual Ann Keller Young Soloist Competition.

Poinsettia information:

Common and botanical name and General characteristics:

Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) Compact shrub with bright green leaves that contain milky sap. Colorful floral bracts surround true flowers. Florist's plant, best purchased in bloom for Christmas decoration; lasts many months. Height 1-4 feet.

Flowers:

Tiny yellow true flowers grow in clusters surrounded by distinctive and long-lasting white, pink, or red bracts.

Light:

Maximum direct sun to diffused.

Special requirements and remarks:

Average humidity. Let soil dry out between waterings. Feed monthly. Use general-purpose soil mix. Discard plant in spring after bracts fade; or repot in spring in larger pot. Cut back to force new growth. Place outdoors in full sun during summer, and water regularly. In midfall bring indoors; give 12-14 hr. daily of steady darkness by covering with black cloth or putting plants in closet until buds form. Minimum temperature: 60 - 65 deg. F.
