Nittany Valley Symphony Guild
invites you to participate in the
Ann Keller Young Soloist Competition
for pianists and instrumentalists
2006-2007
DATE AND PLACE:
- January 7, 2007; 1:00-5:00 p.m. WINNERS ANNOUNCED AT 5:OO
- Room 122, Music Building II, Penn State School of Music, University Park
RULES:
- Students must be in grades 9 through 12. First place winners may not compete the following year on any instrument.
- The competition is limited to solo pianists and instrumentalists (no voice, organ, or groups).
- Music: One movement of a standard concerto or solo piece with an existing orchestral part not exceeding 12 minutes in length. Memorization is required for pianists and strings, and is strongly recommended for other instruments. Michael Jinbo, Music Director, reserves the right to decide the feasibility of the orchestral accompaniment and availablility of orchestral parts. You will be advised in advance if the music is deemed inappropriate.
- Accompanists must be provided for ALL instruments by the contestant; five copies of your music may be needed for the judges, one of which must be an original. Piano reduction copies with solo line are preferred, not just the solo line.
- Students must live in or study with a teacher who lives in the following counties: Centre, Blair, Clearfield, Clinton, Huntingdon, Mifflin, or Union.
- Coats and ties for men and dresses or skirts are competition dress. A Tux, dark suit, or long gown is standard for concert dress.
- Contestants are asked to return at 5:00 for awarding prises.
PRIZES:
- FIRST PRIZE:
- $250.00;
performance of contest piece with the Nittany Valley Symphony,
a professionally recorded CD of the concert;
luncheon with Maestro Michael Jinbo;
complimentary tickets for immediate family; and a framed certificate.
- SECOND PRICE:
- Performance with the Central Pennyslvania Youth Orchestra and framed certificate.
- HONORABLE MENTION: a certificate.
All contestants will receive comment sheets from all judges and a free ticket to the concert, and will be invited to perform a solo piece on the Spring Sounds concert in April.
TO ENTER:
- Complete the application form
and return it with the $25.00 non- refundable application fee (payable to NVS Guild)
to the address on the form. Include a recent picture and a short bio for publicity purposes NO LATER THAN November 30, 2006.
