Richard Kennedy’s performing life is broad and varied. In addition to appearances with the Boston Symphony and the American Chamber Orchestra in Washington DC, he has performed solo recitals in Austria, Canada, New York City at Carnegie Recital Hall, at the Spoleto Festival, the Wymnoor Recital Hall in Florida, the San Francisco Conservatory, and at many colleges and universities throughout the United States.
Combining active performing and teaching careers as Associate Professor of Voice at Penn State University, Mr. Kennedy has been a winner of the Franz Schubert Prize for Singers awarded in Austria and an international finalist in the Opera Company of Philadelphia/Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition.
Mr. Kennedy earned degrees at the Indiana University School of Music and was the first recipient of the Artist Diploma at the Boston University School for the Arts where he was a student of Phyllis Curtin. Richard Kennedy toured for two years as soloist with the Mantovani Orchestra, performing in concerts from coast to coast in the United States as well as in Canada, Japan and Taiwan.
Recent performances include appearances with the Penn’s Woods Festival Orchestra, the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, the Pennsylvania Centre Chamber Orchestera, the Penn State University Resident Theatre Company, and Pennsylvania Centre Stage. Richard Kennedy last appeared with the Nittany Valley Symphony during the 1995-96 season in a program that included arias from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Puccini’s Tosca, and Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress.
Mr. Kennedy will perform with the Nittany Valley Symphony in their All that Glitters Season finale on Tuesday, April 13, 1999.
