Announcing the opening of

STATE COLLEGE CONCERT PERCUSSION ACADEMY

The SCCPA was founded in January 2007 as an educational outreach program of the Nittany Valley Symphony, State College, PA. The founder and instructor is Dr. James Latten, Principal Percussionist of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, and assistant professor of music at Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA.

SCCPA offers private percussion instruction at all levels, beginner through advanced, on:
2- and 4-mallet marimba, xylophone, timpani, drum set, concert snare, Latin percussion, orchestral excerpts, marching snare and tenors, or combinations of the above

Also, lessons can focus on preparation of students for District, All-State, and collegiate auditions. Concert percussion ensemble performance opportunities may be added in the future.

For the most part, lessons will be held after school on Thursdays or Fridays, or Saturday mornings, at State College Area High School South, using instruments belonging to the NVS as well as the State College Municipal Band. We appreciate the cooperation of Dr. Ned Diehl, director of the Municipal Band, in allowing SCCPA to use their instruments. Other location scenarios are possible as well (in a student's home on their personal drum set, in other schools, or at the percussion department at Juniata College).

The Nittany Valley Symphony offers free tickets to certain concerts (and reduced price parent tickets) to students enrolled in lessons through SCCPA.

As is the case with any area private lesson experience, these lessons are intended to complement and extend the musical training that students are receiving in students' school band programs.

LESSONS AND FEES: 30, 45, 60 minute weekly lessons are available, at $22, $32, $42, respectively.
