Sarah Shafer
Biography
Sarah Shafer is the 15-year-old daughter of Timothy and Lou Ann Shafer of State College. She is a tenth grade student at State College Area High School. Sarah is an active pianist, oboist, and singer. She participates in the Nittany Valley Children’s Choir, Concordia, the State College Area High School Tenth Grade Band, Jazz Band I, Tenth Grade Chorus, Master Singer and Chamber Singers. She has participated for several years in the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival as a pianist and performed in several showcase recitals at the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association State Conventions. Sarah was selected to participate as first soprano in the National Junior High/Middle School Honors Choir in New York City, in February 2003, sponsored by the American Choral Director’s Association. In addition, she was the 2003 winner of the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and took 2nd place in both the Marywood Young Artist Competition and the Phyllis Triolo Competiton. She studies voice with Richard Kennedy and piano with Timothy Shafer. Sarah enjoys competitive swimming, and is active in the music ministry of Oakwood Presbyterian Church.
