The Ann Keller Young Soloist Competition honors the woman to whom we owe the birth of the Nittany Valley Symphony over 50 years ago. Her tireless efforts organized the Symphony to perform in concert and in schools. We honor her memory with this competition, which allows serious pianists and instrumentalists, grade nine through twelve, to compete to perform a movement of a concerto with the orchestra. This year marks the 34th year of the competition. The NVS Guild is proud to have encouraged many career musicians and to have added to the musical growth of the community. These fine students represent the cream of the crop in their fields.
This year’s competition will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018,
at Penn State School of Music, Room 122, Music Building II
The Keller Competition is chaired by Teri Smith. The rules and application can be found below:
Contestants compete for a first place prize of $250 and a performance of a contest piece with the Nittany Valley Symphony at the family concert, a professionally-recorded CD of the concert, complimentary tickets for immediate family and a framed certificate. The second place prize is $100.
