Marie Sorensen: Personnel Manager

Marie Sorensen is thrilled to join Nittany Valley Symphony as the new Personnel Manager. She moved to State College three years ago with her husband, drawn to the area while visiting their daughter at Penn State University, and was excited to find a local symphony to be part of.

A lifelong musician, Marie began piano lessons in first grade and picked up the violin in sixth grade, which became her passion. She continued playing through high school and college, performing with ensembles such as the Utah State University Symphony, Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra in Minnesota, and the Austin Philharmonic Orchestra in Texas. She also enjoys singing in church choirs and teaching music to children.

Marie earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education with a minor in Physics from Utah State University. Before joining Nittany Valley Symphony, where she now plays 2nd violin, she taught math at McNeil High School in Austin, Texas, and has always sought opportunities to play violin in the communities where she has lived.
